Distraction No.5

I should be reading novels and poems for my AS English Literature resit but my attention is drifting all over the place. It's just started snowing! See? I can't even type without checking Twitter (@evehewitt) or looking out of the window. I've tried to turn blogging into revising by taking you through the books I'm meant to be reading:

The Great Gatsby
The tragic story of true love and the importance of wealth in 1920's America. Gatsby hosts spectacular parties to all kinds of rich and famous people who in return spread wild rumours about him. The narrator Nick Carraway makes an effort to get to know Gatsby and becomes involved in the complicated love story between Gatsby and Daisy. Daisy's husband Tom Buchanan shamelessly flaunts his mistress (Myrtle) around New York, leaving her husband George wallowing in poverty in the Valley of the Ashes. The death of Myrtle ultimately leads to Gatsby's murder and the end of the extravagant party.

Enduring Love
A ballooning accident throws unsuspecting characters together, four men try to weigh a balloon down as it drifts into the sky, one of them being Jed Parry who believes that he has been sent from God to return narrator Joe's love. After a while the men begin to let go of the balloon rope but one of them (John Logan) continues to travel upwards and eventually falls to his death. As weeks go on Jed displays intense feelings for Joe through phone calls, long love letters and standing outside his door, Joe looks to the police and girlfriend Clarissa's help but feels alone. After visiting John's widow it occurs to Joe that Jed may have De Clarembault's syndrome, a condition that causes someone to have delusional love for another person. Jed's delusion drives Joe and Clarissa apart and things quickly escalate when Jed turns violent and wishes Joe dead.

If you're taking this exam or any exam this week then I hope you've found this useful and
I wish you the best of luck!
Love Eve
